Terms of Use
Effective October 12, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Stefano Anania ("we", "us"), the developer of the FridgeSmart app. By downloading or using FridgeSmart you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Our Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information.
Who can use FridgeSmart
You must be old enough to enter into this agreement where you live, which is 18 in most places. If you're younger than that, you may use FridgeSmart only if a parent or guardian agrees to these terms for you.
What FridgeSmart is
FridgeSmart is a household helper. You tell it, or show it, what is in your fridge and freezer. It keeps a picture of that food, estimates how long each item is likely to stay good, reminds you to use things up, suggests meals you could make, and keeps a shopping list.
FridgeSmart is not a food-safety service, a nutritionist, a doctor or a dietitian. It can't see, smell or test your food.
The information can be wrong
- Freshness dates in the app are estimates. Unless you enter a date printed on the pack, they come from typical shelf lives and from when you said you bought, opened or froze something. The app doesn't know how cold your fridge is, how the food was handled before you got it, or what condition it is in now.
- Scans make mistakes. A photo scan can miss food, count it wrongly or name something that isn't there. Receipts and printed dates can be misread, including which number is the day and which is the month. A barcode can bring back the wrong product, or none; product details come from Open Food Facts, a database kept up by volunteers.
- Storage tips, such as where to keep raw meat, are general guidance and may not suit your fridge or your food.
- Dinner ideas and recipes are written automatically by Apple Intelligence. Nobody has cooked or tested them. Ingredients, quantities, cooking times and temperatures can be wrong or incomplete.
- Money figures in the stats are rough estimates from typical prices, not what you paid.
- Reminders, widgets and cooking timers are a convenience. A notification may arrive late or not at all, so don't rely on one to use food in time, and don't leave cooking unattended because a timer is running.
- We can make mistakes.
The date and storage instructions on the packaging, the advice of your local food-safety authority and your own judgement always come first. If you aren't sure something is safe to eat, don't eat it.
Allergies and diets
If you enter allergies or a diet, FridgeSmart asks Apple Intelligence to respect them when it suggests meals. That is a request to an automatic system, not a guarantee. A suggested recipe can still contain something you need to avoid, and packaged ingredients can contain allergens that aren't obvious from their name.
Always check every ingredient and every label yourself. If you or someone you cook for has a food allergy or a medical dietary need, don't rely on FridgeSmart to keep a meal safe.
Not medical or nutrition advice
Nothing in FridgeSmart is medical, nutrition or food-safety advice. If you have questions about your health or your diet, ask a qualified professional.
What you put in the app
The photos, notes, drawings and lists you add stay on your device, and you're responsible for them. Only add things you have the right to use.
Your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use FridgeSmart on Apple devices that you own or control, for your own non-commercial purposes and as the App Store's usage rules allow. The app is licensed to you, not sold. We keep all rights in the app that these terms don't give you.
You agree not to:
- copy, resell or publish the app or its artwork;
- reverse engineer or modify the app, except where the law says you may regardless of these terms;
- interfere with how the app works, or use it in a way that breaks the law.
Features that use Apple and other services
Some features rely on services from Apple, including Apple Intelligence, Private Cloud Compute, Image Playground, Siri and Reminders. Those services are provided by Apple under Apple's own terms, may not be available on every device, in every region or in every language, and may give incomplete or incorrect results. Apple limits how much you can use Private Cloud Compute each day; when you reach that limit, the app falls back to what your device can do on its own.
Barcode lookups use Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), whose data is made available under the Open Database License. Open Food Facts is run by others, under its own terms, and may be unavailable or wrong.
Updates and availability
We may change, suspend or stop offering FridgeSmart or any feature of it at any time, and we don't promise to provide updates or support. You can stop using FridgeSmart at any time by deleting it. Your licence ends automatically if you break these terms.
No warranty
FridgeSmart is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't warrant that the information in the app is correct, complete or current, or that the app will work without interruption or error.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for spoiled or wasted food, illness, lost data or other losses that come from using or relying on FridgeSmart. Our total liability for all claims about the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for it and US $50.
Some places don't allow some of these limits, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law says can't be waived.
Your responsibility
If someone brings a claim against us because you misused FridgeSmart or broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
Disputes
If you have a problem with FridgeSmart, please contact us first and give us 30 days to try to put it right. To the extent the law allows, you and we agree to bring any claim only on an individual basis, and not as part of a class or representative action.
Changes
We may update the app and these terms. When the terms change, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version on this page. Continuing to use FridgeSmart after that means you accept the updated terms.
Apple's terms
If you got FridgeSmart from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and you agree to the following:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund what you paid for the app, if anything. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for dealing with claims by you or anyone else about the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app doesn't meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or privacy laws.
- If someone claims the app infringes their intellectual property rights, Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling or discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not in a country under a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile data plan.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about FridgeSmart. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a term, we haven't given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to someone who takes over the app. The sections on warranty, liability, your responsibility and disputes continue to apply after you stop using FridgeSmart.
