FridgeSmart

Privacy Policy

Effective October 12, 2026

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the FridgeSmart app for iPhone and iPad. FridgeSmart is made by Stefano Anania ("we", "us"), an independent developer.

FridgeSmart is built so that we don't receive information about you. There are no accounts, the app doesn't talk to any server of ours, and it contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software.

What we collect

Through the app, nothing. We don't collect, receive or store personal information from FridgeSmart, and we have no way to identify you or to see how you use it.

There are two things we can receive outside the app:

Our website and support form

FridgeSmart's website, where this policy and the support form live, is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify processes your IP address and basic browser details to deliver the pages and keep the service secure. The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising.

If you send the support form, Netlify stores what you enter, checks it for spam with an automated filter, and passes it to us.

What stays on your device

All of this is kept in the app's own storage on your device. FridgeSmart doesn't sync it to iCloud or to your other devices, and we can't see it. If you back up your device, to iCloud or to a computer, the backup may include it, as it does for other apps.

The FridgeSmart widgets, cooking timers on the Lock Screen, and the Siri and Shortcuts actions read the same information on your device. So that you can find food from your device's search, the app also adds what's in your fridge to the search index on your device.

Camera and photos

If you allow it, FridgeSmart uses the camera to photograph your fridge or a receipt and to scan barcodes and printed dates. You can also choose photos from your library; the app sees only the photos you pick.

Photos you scan are used to work out what food is in them. The app doesn't save them. A photo you pin to your fridge door is saved, at a smaller size, in the app's storage on your device.

Apple Intelligence

FridgeSmart uses Apple Intelligence to recognise food in photos, read receipts, understand a list you type and suggest dinners. This is done by Apple's models, on your device or through Apple's Private Cloud Compute. It is never done by a server of ours or by another AI company.

Apple states that Private Cloud Compute doesn't store this data or make it available to Apple. We don't receive it. If you'd rather keep everything on your device, turn off "Use Private Cloud Compute" in FridgeSmart's settings.

Barcodes and Open Food Facts

When you scan a barcode, the app sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free public food database, to look up the product's name, brand and category. Like any internet request, this reaches Open Food Facts from your IP address. The request names the app and its version and carries nothing else about you or your fridge. Open Food Facts handles these requests under its own privacy policy.

This is the only service outside Apple that the app contacts. If you'd rather not use it, add food by name or with a photo instead.

Microphone and speech

In Cook Mode you can turn on Hands-free and say "next" or "back" to move between steps. The app uses the microphone and speech recognition only while Hands-free is on, and stops listening when you turn it off or leave Cook Mode.

Your speech is recognised on your device where your device and language support that. Where they don't, the audio is sent to Apple's speech recognition service, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy. The app doesn't record or keep the audio or what you said, and we never receive it.

Reminders

If you choose "Send to Reminders", the app asks for access to your reminders so it can create a list called FridgeSmart and add your shopping items to it. iOS grants this as full access, but the app only looks for its own list and adds to it; it doesn't read your other reminders. What you send becomes part of the Reminders app, and syncs with iCloud if you've set Reminders up that way.

Notifications

If you turn on the morning reminder, it is scheduled as a notification on your device. Reminders are created by your device, not sent from a server. A reminder names the food to use up, so it may be visible on your Lock Screen.

Siri, Shortcuts and search

When you ask Siri about FridgeSmart or run one of its shortcuts, Apple processes the request under its own privacy policy and the app answers from the data on your device.

Sharing your shopping list

If you share your shopping list, it goes to the app or person you choose, and what happens to it there is up to them.

What we don't do

Because the app doesn't track you, there is nothing for a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off.

How your information is protected

What FridgeSmart stores is kept in the app's own storage on your device, protected by your device's passcode and encryption.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, the law may give you the right to know what personal information a business holds about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Because we hold none from the app, you control it yourself:

We won't treat you differently for making any of these choices.

Where your messages are handled

FridgeSmart is run from the United States. If you write to us from another country, your message is handled there.

Children

FridgeSmart isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version on this page.
